It would be good for Zeman to inform about his health, says Vystrčil

Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS) said it was possible that the Senate would inquire about the president’s health through official channels. According to Vystrčil, it would be appropriate for Miloš Zeman to inform about his condition ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. The speaker of the upper house of parliament stated this on Czech TV on Sunday in the program Otázky Václav Moravec.

Chamber chairman Radek Vondráček (ANO) said, according to his information, Zeman was qualified to lead post-election negotiations.

“I would really hate it if we ended up having to formally question him (the president) in the end. At the moment it turns out that we still don’t know how things are going, and everything will be shrouded in a kind of fog. , then one of the options in the game, is that we have the opportunity to formally ask like this. He didn’t have to answer. But I say again that I believe it is not necessary, that we would normally find out the information,” Vystrčil said.

“I will leave Mr Vystrčilová’s statement without comment out of respect,” said presidential spokesman Jiří Ovčáček.

Zeman spent eight nights at the Central Military Hospital in September. At first, Prague Castle did not comment on the reasons for hospitalization, but later described the president’s stay in the hospital as rehabilitation. A Castle spokesman said doctors had performed several tests on the president in the first few days, that they had not found any life-threatening problems and they had found that he was suffering from mild fatigue and dehydration. That’s why he got an IV. Immediately after his release, Zeman continued his work program at Lány.

“Our legal system does not require constitutional officials to inform about the state of their health. I say for myself – and this is in accordance with the resolutions of the Senate Constitutional Commission of the Czech Republic – that it would be best if before (the president) began to carry out the important decisions that await us, he told us about his health – either through the board or a group of doctors who would tell us what it was like,” said Vystrčil.

“Mr. President doesn’t have to. If he doesn’t do it, he won’t. But the important thing is that the information gets to the public. He will appoint someone to form a government in some time, he will decide who will and will not be prime minister, and so on. “These are very basic things that I consider fair, true and in accordance with the spirit of the constitution and some of the rules that are standards that we will inform about President Zeman’s health state,” he continued.

He revealed, Zeman was often hospitalized and had health problems. He also reminded that the public received information about Václav Havel’s health condition.

“I was informed because I was in telephone contact with the Chancellor. I got this information from my position. Mr. President Zeman is not completely healthy, we know that. On the other hand, I think he is looking forward to post-election negotiations and that he will enjoyed it well. And I think he is qualified to lead them, “replied the head of the Vondráček Chamber. He said he understood the president’s way of keeping information. “This is the sphere of everyone’s inner personality,” he said.

The president was treated for foot neuropathy and diabetes for a long time. Due to problems with his legs, he started using a wheelchair this year.
