“To get to know the image of the Captain – in the exhibition space of 5,000 square meters – he brought a magnifying glass,” writes Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, on the X website. In this way he refers to the size of the exposure of RTM. Witold Pilecki at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.
The director of the museum, Prof. Rafał Wnuk, at the end of June, decided to remove from the exhibition the portraits of the captain Witold Pilecki, Father Maksymilian Kolbe, as well as large-format photographs of the Ulma family.

Protest
Immediately after this decision, protests by angry Polish citizens took place in Gdańsk and Warsaw. Several hundred people took part.

Due to the protests, the museum management changed its mind and returned the Polish hero to the main exhibition. As it turned out, only in appearance.
