Last year he narrowly lost in the final of the Diamond League. Then Cheruiyot won by eight hundred seconds. This time Kenya had no chance.
– It feels good. “I’ve finished 2nd twice already, so I definitely feel it’s time, but it’s big,” Ingebrigtsen told NRK.
He kissed a European record, but had to settle for the best of the year in the world. He increased his own time from Lausanne on August 26 by three hundred seconds.
– It’s a bit bitter that the season ended when I felt so good. I’ve done two 3.29 rounds pretty close to each other, with no particular focus focus. “It will take a lot for me to be in the same shape next summer,” Ingebrigtsen told NRK and answered a question about whether he was at his best.
– Yes, I really feel it.
Evaluation
Ingebrigtsen was behind pacesetter Matthew Ramsden by 900 meters before he took the lead and took the lead the rest of the way. Cheruiyot was right behind him heading into the race, but Ingebrigtsen just pulled away and outscored him.
Cheruiyot have the last five wins in the Diamond League, but stand no chance against Ingebrigtsen on Thursday. He is second at 3.30.21.
Ramsden set the pace high and crossed the 400 yards in 54.19. It was slower in the next 400, and the 800-meter pass was 1.51.41. Ingebrigtsen crossed 1,200 yards at 2.48.08.
Realistic
– To be honest, I was ready for it to be a light rabbit. “I was told at the start that he was a rabbit,” said Ingebrigtsen and didn’t want to complain that he didn’t get better help in his pursuit of a European record.
– You have to be a bit realistic and can’t expect things that don’t exist. You have to be satisfied with the help you get, he said.
Last month, the Norwegian won EC gold in the 1500 and 5000 meters.
Andreas Thorkildsen (javelin) is the only Norwegian to have previously won overall in training in the Diamond League. He did that twice.
