It took nine days before he got a message from Norwegian Antidoping for a press conference at the Ullevaal stadium. There he told what happened.
Johaug recounts in the book “The Whole History” about a heated encounter with the Norwegian Ski Association. The discussion is about making the case public. There he experienced that the ski association was pushing him to cover up a doping case with lies for a few days so as not to take the shine off the kickoff planned for all disciplines.
Nils’ roommate Jakob Hoff was not happy.
– In the end it really boils down to Nils Jakob, who is normally a sane person. In one violent motion he slams his huge fist on the table, pushes himself back into his chair and stands up as he delivers a thunderous speech about how damned I’ve been these past few days and how far I’ve fallen. How gnawing it is to carry this terrible secret about my credibility as a human being. “And now you want Therese to come out and lie?” he shouted angrily, at the same time picking up the pen from the table and throwing it with all his might. It flew through the room like a projectile, not far above the ski president’s head, and hit the wall hard, Therese explained in the book.
Therese Johaug also wrote that she should have expressed herself and behaved differently during the press conference itself.
– Hitting the table isn’t good either. I just lost a bit of control of where I sat. “It didn’t help how much Nils Jakob and I had rehearsed the night before, emotions really took over, and it was going to be a long time before I could really look at my own case with some perspective,” he said.
