Over the past eight years, we have become unfamiliar with real politics. PiS’s president, Jarosław Kaczyński, runs the party, government, Sejm, and state alone. This statement is not an exaggeration, although for some plans he had to seek support from Jarosław Gowin, Zbigniew Ziobro or the charm of Paweł Kukiz, his will dominated in most areas. Sometimes he had to reconcile different factions and overcome differences, but this was a fight within his own camp.
Not only in fundamental matters, such as security or changes to the tax system, even when filling positions in the management of State Treasury companies, Nowogrodzka is the one who makes the final decisions.
It’s going to be different now because The new majority in parliament, which will officially take power in the next few weeks, is a combination of personal ambitions, different programs and experiences. The Civic Coalition, Third Way, or New Left are just signs behind which there are certain parties that have clear ideas about what should be done about abortion, civil partnerships, how low taxes should be, or how much we should spend on policy. health and social.

Real politics
The good news is that real politics is returning to the Sejm. Donald Tusk as prime minister will be the leader of the ruling party, but this does not mean that he will rule his cabinet undividedly.
After the coalition agreement was signed on Friday, it was clear that this would be a government full of compromises. Many issues had to be negotiated, the positions achieved and the ambitions of Szymon Hołownia, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and perhaps Adrian Zandberg also had to be reconciled.
Even if the decision-making process slows down, sometimes coalition partners have to hold back or withdraw the idea, this will only benefit the quality of the laws produced.
If the Sejm is no longer just a voting machine with clear results, the quality of the legislative process will improve. The lack of brute political forces ready to pass any bill within tens of hours, which would need to be amended the day after it is passed, is an advantage for the country.
The Sejm as a place of public debate and clash of the sensitivities of different constituencies as well as a place for seeking meaningful compromises restored Polish politics to its proper rank..
It’s a time of reckoning, a time of revenge
On the side of the coalition that will soon take over power, the party of joy after the election victory is still ongoing. He is not bothered by even ill-advised attempts to hold the government, which has not been created based on campaign promises, to account. There will be a time to do this, the fact is that reaching a general and targeted coalition agreement is not the time. Donald Tusk’s presentation will shed more light on the new cabinet’s plans.
The first months of power will be a great show of unity, because The Tusk coalition would be united by a desire to hold PiS to account, purge Jarosław Kaczyński’s party, and audit the country..
The real politics will return via the government’s first draft law, which must obtain a majority before the bill reaches the Sejm, or by a parliamentary initiative that may not be to the taste of any of the formations forming the new majority.
It will be difficult to get a majority for projects related to abortion or civil partnerships, but everyone is probably aware of that. However, even tax cuts are likely to generate resistance among left-wing political circles, as they would mean the erosion of public services.

The country that looks after you
About social security, maintaining huge costs for 800+ programs, 13th and 14th pension funds or support for entrepreneurs and large investments? Coalition partners will soon be faced with such questions. Besides that we have to face the same social expectations that the government will solve all problems and protect against unfavorable phenomena in the Polish or global economy. PiS has accustomed people to the fact that the state will take care of them if, for example, food, electricity or gas prices rise. In the long term, such a policy cannot be implemented, but changing people’s habits is also not easy. Especially if this change will have a bad impact on Poland.
At the end of this road there will be a president who, with his veto power, could become a much more active player on the political scene than during the reign of the party that helped him become head of state. The words living together will appear increasingly frequently on political news and journalism sites. Apart from the president, there are also a number of institutions filled by PiS during his reign. It cannot be denied that, apart from handing over new legislative and executive powers, this will also make things more difficult.
With the departure of PiS politicians from government offices, political autocracy will inevitably end. Real politics is back. Mostly because of the advantage of needing to look for what holds the coalition together, but also with the disadvantage of reduced agency. Over the past eight years, Polish society has become accustomed to a different model of state management. Habits are the hardest things to change.
