Good news for Norway’s chances at the World Cup later this autumn: Katrine Lunde (43) is back in training after she had to miss last week’s international matches due to “health problems”.
Vipers coach Tomas Hlavaty reported that all Vipers players except the ill Vilde Jonassen were practicing on Tuesday.
– After consulting with the medical team, Katrine Lunde canceled the meeting due to health concerns, reports NHF on their website last week.
Club now states that Lunde is ready for Wednesday night’s elite series against the Romerike Ravens after standing for the last two league games and two international matches. This will be the Vipers captain’s first game since September 30. Anna Vjakhireva and Jana Knedlikova are also ready to fight after a short break.
Norway picked up big wins over Hungary and Switzerland last week, but conceded a total of 60 goals in two matches in the EHF Euro Cup. Marie Davidsen and Olivia Lykke Nygaard are the goalkeepers and are the obvious candidates for the WC squad that will be selected on November 7.
But there is no doubt that Katrine Lunde could once again be the key to WC Norway’s success. This super veteran is the winningest national handball team player in the world. It is unlikely that Silje Solberg-Østhassel will make it to the WC after she becomes a mother in August.
The Vipers faced the Romerike Ravens twice in eight days. Next week is NM’s match against Anniken Wollik & co. Between these two matches, Crimea is the away opponent in the Champions League. The defending champions need a win after losing two of their four matches so far.
PS! Norway kick off the WC against Greenland in Stavanger on November 29.
