Historic Norwegian EC Silver for Tuxen: – Will call home and scream and howl
Helle Tuxen (22) cried tears of joy after winning the first senior international medal of her career in the 3-meter freefall during the European Championships in Belgrade on Friday.
The 22-year-old took silver behind England’s outstanding gold winner Desharne Bent-Ashmeil in Serbia.
– I’m in seventh heaven. Winning the European Championship silver medal felt much better than I thought. “I have worked for years to experience this feeling,” Tuxen told NTB after the feat.
Eight years ago he won an EC medal in the junior class. Since then, he has worked hard to repeat his performance at senior level.
– This silver feels like gold today. I had a few losses here and there and lost very often. Finally being allowed to stand on the podium was indescribable. There were a lot of tears of joy today, the 22-year-old said.
In Friday’s final, England’s Bent-Ashmeil was in a class of her own. He finished with a score of 305.15.
Tuxen won silver with 243.10, while Ireland’s Clare Cryan won bronze with a score of 240.55.
– I am very proud of being able to stay calm when it mattered most, said the silver medalist from Norway.
When asked how such a joyous silver medal should be celebrated, his response was:
– Now I will call the family home, and then I will howl and scream at them.
