Prague, 9 October 2023 (PROTEX) – According to statistics, one in five people experiences mental illness, and one in 25 suffers from persistent symptoms. Mental health is a prerequisite for physical health and is an integral part of a quality life. Mental disorders and illnesses have increased worldwide in recent decades. On the occasion of World Mental Health Day which falls on October 10, the Military Health Insurance Company urges the public not to take symptoms of mental illness lightly and seek help immediately.
“Half of these disorders start around age 14, but most go undetected and untreated. Therefore, Military Health Insurance Company offers its clients the opportunity to use the Healthy Mental program, which includes comprehensive measures to support the mental health of insured persons, especially children.” said the reviewing doctor from MUDr Military Health Insurance Company. Kristina Slavíková. This program was prepared in collaboration with clinical psychologists and speech therapists. It not only helps parents of children with behavioral, learning or mental illnesses, but also contains contributions for adults to prevent memory and cognitive disorders.
“Clients who want to actively maintain their mental health, with VoZP support, can complete, for example, an intensive online program to support personal satisfaction based on the principles of mindfulness. And if the client already has a diagnosis of depression or anxiety disorder, he can use online psychotherapy sessions based on the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy.” the VoZP reviewing doctor continued. You can find further information about the Healthy Soul program at www.vozp.cz/zdrava-duse.
Although the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders has made great progress since the mid-20th century, there are still many prejudices among society that can prevent patients from seeking timely medical help. Mental disorders can affect anyone, especially depression that accompanies a number of other illnesses or disabilities, making recovery difficult. The most common mental illnesses include neurosis, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders or addictive substance use.
Mental illness is a disease like any other. To some extent, this can be prevented by prevention, namely an active lifestyle with sufficient exercise and seeking help on time. “For example, depression and anxiety can be treated with psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both. Psychiatric care should not only focus on alleviating the symptoms of mental illness, but also increasing the patient’s independence, quality of life, and developing abilities.” added MUDR. Nightingale.
You can consult a general practitioner about your condition, who will advise which specialist to contact, and in more serious cases, issue a request form for examination by a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. This examination can also be carried out remotely via telephone or video call. VoZP offers the possibility of using telemedicine for all general practitioners, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.
