Students and guardians from all over Wielkopolska came to Konin today to summarize the 5th edition of the Miss Cursed Provincial History Competition. More than 200 people participated in the competition.
The competition, which has been held for several years, aims to commemorate National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldier. This year’s edition is dedicated to a profile of the steadfast woman who fought for an liberated Poland during World War II, but was also active in the postwar anti-communist underground. Who are they? – They are the liaison officers, nurses, fiancés, sisters and confidants of the cursed army, but are also actively involved in the fight. For many years they were doomed to oblivion. The Cursed Misses are the silent heroes of the struggle to liberate Poland, which history has just discovered for us now – said during the gala.
The project organizer and initiator of the competition is Zofia Itman, a member of the Wielkopolska Provincial council. “I am very happy to see so many people attending. I want to thank all the young people and their caregivers for their commitment. This is priceless for us. From year to year there is more and more interest in the subject of the damned soldier and the damned maiden, who always stays out of the way. The credit for their role cannot be overstated. Historical policy and referring to memory, passing it on to the next generation, is a very important task for us. We have set ourselves the goal of spreading those values. Congratulations to everyone, because there were more than 200 participants from all over Wielkopolska – said Zofia Itman. Among the guests were members of parliament, local government officials, local institutions and sponsors.
