In this issue, the historical preservation report focuses on preserving the history of the second half of the 19th century afterthe early twentieth century and its current assessment.
Here, readers will find contributions from the conference “František Schmoranz the elder (1814–1902): architects, builders and preservation”, which took place in November 2020. An introductory contribution by Ivo ulce introduces the current state of knowledge of the Schmoranz family from Slatia. Two other contributions by Vojtěch Barcal and Kristýna and Jan Uhlík are devoted to the work of František Schmoranz ST. at Vysoké Mýto, both for the monuments he restored and rebuilt in pure zeal (for example, the St. Lawrence church) and for his own architectural work. The magazine also explores broader relationships: Milan Němeček’s studies approach the work of the eldest son of the family’s founder, František Schmoranz Jr., who, among other things, had success in Palestine and Egypt. Jan Galeta’s articles on contemporary practice at Moravská Ostrava and Jana Marešová’s articles on the work of architect Schwarzenberg Jan Sedláček offer views on contemporary architectural creation and preservation practices in other areas outside Prague. Marek Krejčí studies dedicated to the ck corps of conservatorsSTordinary commission on the part of the Austrian monarchy. In addition to the Schmoranz theme, readers will also find Pavla Cenková’s other articles on Brno architecture, this time focusing on the Dolnopolní street. Jiří Juchelka and Ondřej Klápa deal with field identification of World War II activities using non-destructive archaeological methods.
