Most pawnshops and bazaars break the law, says the Czech Trade Inspection

In every fourth case, the pawnshop does not mark the product as defective, and every fifth pawnshop does not inform about the right to sue.

Prague – Most pawnshops and bazaar operators violate laws, which among other things require them to identify clients or prohibit buying and selling goods at night. Of the 93 examinations carried out in the first quarter Czech trade inspection (ČOI) the law is violated at 58 percent. In eight cases, the bazaar operator did not identify the client. ČOI stated this in a press release today.

“ČOI regularly monitors the activities of bazaars and pawnshops and found that the situation in the night traffic restriction area has improved greatly. However, there are still violations of the Consumer Protection Act, when the seller does not properly inform the consumer about the scope, conditions and method of filing a claim,” said the director of the Czech Trade Inspection, Mojmír Bezecný.

In 25 cases, the pawnshop violated the obligation to indicate in the product purchase document information that the product is used or defective. In 20 cases, they failed to fulfill their obligations to properly notify consumers about the exercise of claim rights, and in nine cases, sellers did not issue documents for the purchase of products or services, even though consumers asked for them.

The inspection officially imposed 61 fines totaling 137,000 crowns, and also banned the sale of 42 products that did not meet statutory requirements.
