Neurosurgeons from České Budějovice Hospital take part in world experts workshop in Brno

The Institute of Anatomy of the Medical Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno hosts the best neurosurgery in the Czech Republic and the world. Among the invited guests were Vladimír Beneš from the Central Military Hospital in Prague, who has a recognized capacity in his field, or Jiří Fiedler, deputy head of the neurosurgery department at České Budějovice Hospital.

Experts from around the world shared new knowledge and experiences in the two-day workshop. Practicing neurosurgeons from Italy, Lithuania, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Israel and Brazil gathered in the South Moravian metropolis. This event was organized by the training committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS Education and Training Committee), organized by the Practical Anatomy Education Center in Brno.

“For neurosurgeons, in their estimation, the benefits are enormous. Both in terms of lectures and 3D anatomy delivered by experienced lecturers. In this way, they will gain an anatomical basis for a more complex approach to the brain. They can then test their knowledge on specially mounted cadavers, where arteries are shown in red and veins in blue. The workplace is equipped in the same way as in real operations,” Jiří Fiedler said.

Under the guidance of an experienced neurosurgeon, especially young doctors can gain new skills or try unconventional approaches. “Young people have to learn it somewhere. And it doesn’t work on patients. This kind of training and education system has become popular and necessary in recent years. Because studying this in clinical practice is practically impossible.” said Vladimír Beneš.

“The idea to teach 3D neurosurgical anatomy came about four years ago when we decided to start holding these courses and share our work and ideas with other neurosurgeons from around the world. This is the main goal of all workshops,” outlined by neurosurgeon Pablo Gonzáles-Lopéz from Alicante, Spain, who also teaches in Brno.
