After a relative silence, the Borderlands brand witnessed some major events in the field of alternative adaptations in rapid succession. In the earlier days, for example, it was announced that the premiere of the re-shot film would take place after countless delays over the next year, while now there is also talk of an interactive series, which will weigh your options.
- Cinematic Border got the premiere date
- We will finally see the film on August 9, 2024
- At the same time, there was also an announcement of an interactive series the writers of Silent Hill: Ascension are currently working on
Borderlands EchoVision Live is a new form of interactive entertainment that goes beyond the shooter genre, according to the description given. The project is being developed by studio Genvid Entertainment, which is the team that announced a similarly tuned Silent Hill: Ascension last year.
In terms of the overall nature of the project, there are relatively few of them, even considering the absence of a video and release date. The press release only includes that the project will follow a total of eight new characters who find themselves on the familiar planet Eden-6 from Borderlands 3.
This character tries to follow in the footsteps of the Vault Hunters and earn their fame during the three week pilgrimage – albeit in a different way. Those who try the interactive series when it releases will be able to pre-determine what all the characters will do and how they will behave – which is similar to Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands, only with elements of social play.
“Every decision, every moment you participate in a problem,” said Jacob Navok, Genvid studio director. “This is your chance to make a mark on the world and a legacy that will last. Decisions do not have a reset button and are shared by all participants.”
The announcement doesn’t reveal how this interaction between players will work, but it’s safe to assume that the system will be more or less the same as in Silent Hill: Ascension. For context: Stephan Bugaj, creative director of Genvid, said earlier this month that viewers (or players) will have a day to a week to watch each episode of Ascension and then choose what action the cast should take.
On the other hand, when it comes to the film Borderlands, which offers no such choice, only what almost everyone should be interested in after hearing here for so long: a specific premiere date. Officially in the works since 2015 (and unofficially it seems even longer), the film will finally hit theaters on August 9, 2024, according to a new post, nearly ten years after its announcement.
The film is directed by Eli Roth (who has also directed horror films such as Hostel and The Green Inferno) and stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu and Jamie Lee Curtis.
