Bullen to the semi-finals of the World Wrestling Championships – closing in on an Olympic spot
Grace Bullen performed well in the preliminary round of the 62 kilogram class at the World Wrestling Championships. Now he is ready for the semifinals and is close to securing a spot in the Olympics.
In the opening round, Bullen needed just 21 seconds to beat Cape Verde’s Miranda Rodrigues 4-0.
The Norwegian wrestler attacked and quickly got a takedown followed by a fall. Thus the match ended after 21 seconds.
In the round of 16, she met Esther Omolayo Kolawole from Nigeria. It was a longer match, but Bullen started well and led 3-0 after the first three minutes.
After the break, he then supported Kolawole and eventually won 7-1, with almost a minute and a half remaining.
In the quarterfinals against Kriszta Incze of Romania, Bullen again made short work of it and won 10-0 after just one minute and 19 seconds on the wrestling mat.
Bullen must at least finish in the top five of the WC to secure an Olympic spot now. Now that he was in the semi-finals, he was guaranteed bronze in the final. Since there were two bronze finals in wrestling, there will be a rematch for fifth place between the two athletes who lost in the bronze final.
The semifinals are played on Wednesday afternoon, and the final on Thursday evening. Bullen met Japan’s Sakura Motoki in the semifinals.
There are two Olympic qualifiers remaining before the Summer Olympics in Paris next summer. (NTB/NRK)
