Leaders of the G7’s major world economies joked about Vladimir Putin at a summit in Germany. In particular, they talked about punching the Russian president. Taking off his jacket, Boris Johnson pointed to a photo of himself half-naked and suggested the West should be tougher than Putin.

The summit of the G7 nations takes place in the Alpine Bavarian castle in Elmau, from Sunday to Tuesday. Although the main topic of negotiations was serious and mainly related to the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, world economic leaders met in a good mood, even jokingly.
At Sunday’s opening session, elite politicians were heard joking about punching the Russian president. Even when British Prime Minister Boris Johnson took off his jacket because of the high temperatures, he said: “We need to show Russia our pectoral muscles. We all have to show that we are tougher than Putin.”
To this, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded with comments about bare-chested horseback riding, referring to the famous photos of Vladimir Putin shirtless.
At the summit, the world’s major economic groups G7 condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and fully supported Kyiv in the conflict. At the same time, countries pledged support to Ukraine for as long as needed, and at the same time assured the country that it would decide its future, including future peace treaties, exclusively on its own.
The G7 countries, whose negotiations include the European Union, are also demanding punishment for all those responsible for war crimes.
