Ingebrigtsen in the national team: Part of the European Championship investment
Filip Ingebrigtsen is on the national team called the EC team. The Olympic group, of which he is not part, gets a little extra support when it comes to sports. Henrik Ingebrigtsen is also part of this group.
A total of 22 athletes were selected to enter the elite team. Five of them are para-athletes.
– We still believe in Filip as an athlete, says sports manager Erlend Slokvik.
– We have long-term goals and plans for Filip with a view to the Olympics. “We see he still has potential,” said Slokvik,
The selection of teams consisting of two parts is based on which championships the management thinks the athletes can participate in.
This became clear when the Norwegian Athletics Association unveiled its elite athletics teams for the upcoming season on Tuesday morning.
The national team consists of a number of athletes from various disciplines.
– There are already ten athletes who have qualified for the Olympics, said sports director Erlend Slokvik during the presentation of the elite teams.
The biggest tension is associated with Filip Ingebrigtsen, who put his poor season behind him.
Filip Ingebrigtsen was one of the world’s best middle distance runners from 2016 and for many years to come. Among other things, he won bronze from WC in 2017 and EC gold in 2016. In recent years, he has experienced difficulties. Among other things, he did not qualify for the WC this year.
It was previously announced that the Ingebrigtsen brothers would not attend the elite team presentation.
Sports manager Erlend Slokvik also explained that the association would not answer questions about Gjert Ingebrigtsen’s refusal of accreditation for indoor WC and EC next season.
Ingebrigtsen has obtained a lawyer after it became clear that he, as Narve coach Gilje Nordås, was refused accreditation.
