Retzius fails in Olympic final
Lene Retzius surpassed the opening height of 4.40 meters in the pole vault final at the Olympics and she almost went over 4.60 meters. This placed her at number 18 at the Olympics.
– I thought he was in the process of calming down, but he went down, Rodal said of the list after Retzius’ first attempt at 4.60 meters.
But he never got any closer and broke on the second and third attempts. His best annual height was 4.61 meters.
– He might wait a little longer, I think in the city it is more aggressive, Rodal said.
He also needed a couple of tries at the opening height of 4.40 meters. After he also ripped it on his second attempt, he was clearly frustrated and spoke to an official. His pitch was not set correctly because a piece of the pole was left in the pole hole. So he tried again.
And in his new attempt, he comfortably cleared 4.40 meters in the pole vault.
– It looks very promising, said NRK athletics expert Vebjørn Rodal after he left.
– Now you just have to do it, is the message from coach Christopher Ullmann to the athlete and his roommate.
In the qualifying round, Retzius qualified with a cry of sorrow because not enough athletes met the requirements. Thus, a total of 19 athletes competed in the final, including Retzius.
The competition is still ongoing at the time of writing. There are 12 athletes who have completed the 4.60m distance.
