Hamburg – Beach volleyball players Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner will attend the first world tournament in Hamburg after Perušič was injured. The stickman of the elite Czech pair can now play without restrictions, but in talks at union level website He admits that he is still wary of his recently torn stomach.
He tested it for the first time in last week’s match at the German circuit tournament in Berlin. “I’m playing more or less without boundaries. I just have to be careful not to get into some extreme positions. Maybe it’s more of a mental thing so I’m a little scared to push through but otherwise I feel good and I think I’ll be fine for this tournament,” he said ahead of the Elite 16 event in Hamburg, which will be joined by last year’s European runners-up on Thursday.
They were eliminated in the semifinals in Berlin. “We wanted to test my stomach in the rhythm of the match, but also play a little together, because we played our last tournament together in Ostrava almost three months ago. We are not satisfied with the result, however, on paper, we should have won the tournament. Neither did the performance. dazzling or rather unstable, but that’s not the point. It was mainly the preparation for Hamburg and I think it served the purpose,” explained Perušič.
He was injured in early July at the King of the Court event in Luxembourg. Because of this, the Czech Olympians lost the elite tournaments in Gstaad and Montreal as well as the European Championships in Vienna, which Schweiner finished with Tadeáš Trousil. In the Olympic qualification, they will have the opportunity to collect points in other world events. “Two extra tournaments would have been nice. But I’m quite happy it didn’t happen before the World Cup, where there is a huge allocation of points. The timing could be even worse. I hope now we will be healthy until the end of the season, because it might take some time long time. We’ll be playing the last tournament probably in December,” Schweiner said. The World Championships take place in October in Mexico.
In Hamburg, Perušič and Schweiner will face domestic pair Sven Winter, Paul Henning, Qatari team Šaríf Janus and Ahmed Tidžan and the pair from the qualifiers. “It will be a very tough match against Qatar. Hopefully, if the previous two matches go well, then on paper it will be a match for first place. But the other two teams must be of good quality. Winter’s home team and Henning will definitely be dangerous. They played us with them in Berlin now. We beat them 2-0, but I don’t think they attach as much importance to the domestic tour as the domestic world champions, especially in front of full Rothenbaum. And from qualifying, they are definitely not a close match weak,” commented Perušič.
