Piotr Duda versus PKP Cargo authorities: The beginning of the war with “S”

“Several dozen lawsuits have been filed in connection with the dismissal of employees under special protection at PKP Cargo and Poczta Polska,” said “Solidarity” chairman Piotr Duda at a meeting of the Management Board of the Gdańsk Region NSZZ “Solidarność”.

Piotr Duda appealed to members of “Solidarity” to provide support to the flood victims, including members of the Union who also suffered from the disaster.

Let us be Solidarity, let us support all the flood victims, but also the Union members who lost not only their property, but also their jobs. Many of them have been flooded and it will be very difficult to rebuild them. The Solidarity trade union also suffered from the floods. I mean our holiday resort in Jarnołtówek, which is located 16 km from Głuchołazy

– he said.

Then the leaders of “Solidarity” sounded the alarm about the situation of employees in the context of increasingly frequent closures of workplaces in Poland.

These have not been good days, weeks and months for Polish workers and Trade Union members. Every day we learn about the liquidation of new jobs, or even entire factories, or about collective layoffs as part of the so-called restructuring. For us, “S” members, the word “restructuring” is associated with one thing – liquidation or massive layoffs. This remained in our minds after the 1990s, when all factories were closed, as were shipyards and other entities in Pomerania. And that’s what’s happening right now. PKP Cargo, Poczta Polska, Beco Łódź, Beco Wrocław, Volvo bus factory in Wrocław, liquidation of one shift at Stellantis in Gliwice, and I can last a long time

– he said.

War against “Solidarity”

Piotr Duda also raised the issue of layoffs at PKP Cargo. He believed that this action meant “starting a war against Solidarity”. He confirmed this by including Union members on the list of people to be dismissed. According to Duda, the company authorities wanted to get rid of the most troublesome employees who might be a problem for them.

Duda assured that “Solidarity” would fight for jobs and would not allow it to “break apart”.

Dozens of lawsuits have been filed in connection with the dismissal of employees under special protection at PKP Cargo and Poczta Polska. They were dismissed for violating the Labor Code and the Trade Union Law. We are also preparing a letter to the International Labor Organization regarding discrimination against trade union activists. This is the beginning of our path to protecting jobs and union “Solidarity” in these companies, because we will not accept help from other trade union organizations.

– said Piotr Duda.
