Pirk: Health is just one thing and it is the most valuable thing we have

Professor Jan Pirk knows the role of a good doctor and a responsible manager intimately. He leads his team every day as an operator in the hall, where every second determines life. He has also been the head of the largest cardio center in the Czech Republic, with around 550 employees, for 24 years. In the Senate, he intends to focus on the topics closest to him, namely supporting a healthy lifestyle and urban development.

My life is connected to Prague 10, to medicine and sports. I want to be an active senator who will be an extension of the council and the mayor. My goal is to be a senator who will work on the agenda he/she was elected to. I want to use my life and professional experience in the Senate. People will be able to count on me to speak my mind.

The Senate is the guardian of democracy. In recent years, we have all seen with our own eyes what can happen in times of crisis. It was often the senators who saved the Czech Republic’s reputation abroad and in the eyes of its own citizens. The credibility of our institutions is one of the guarantees of the stability of our democracy and the supremacy of the law. I want to contribute to the progress of my work.

Most importantly, it has been my honor to lead the nation’s largest cardio center for 24 years. I met many wonderful colleagues and patients who can always rely on me as the head of the clinic. Teamwork, managerial experience and attention to detail. This must be a central pillar of my work in the Senate.

My lifelong theme is a healthy lifestyle, today we are fighting an “epidemic” of childhood obesity. Let’s start from the most natural thing – paving the way for children to play sports, giving them the opportunity to choose the sport they like, adapting the circumstances so that they can really dedicate themselves to the sport. I would like to be an intermediary between the Prague 10 mayoral candidates and the community, especially in building new sports fields and supporting local sports clubs and organizations. In old age, active fitness maintenance alone is not enough. The only way to confront the ills of civilization is significant preventative engagement. I will fight to make prevention programs a more common part of our lives. Health is just one thing and it is the most valuable thing we have. So let’s approach it responsibly.

That would be depression, which I will not treat with medication. If we want to defeat depression in society, we must first start with ourselves. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are basic prerequisites for change. Everything goes better with a smile and movement.

As a lifelong celebrity, I must mention Eden again. However, free time can be spent in the parks, whether I mention Gutovka, Malešický park, or Heroldovy sady.
