Presidential change. Due to Miloš Zeman’s condition, a medical council will be formed

So far, no one has officially said what exactly is the health problem of the President of the Republic, Miloš Zeman. What we know for sure is that he was admitted to the Central Military Hospital (ÚVN) and the Senate published a report from the treating doctor that the current head of state is unable to perform his duties.

However, according to three independent sources Seznam Zpráv, at least the decision on the president’s treatment will change. His condition is likely to begin to be resolved by the medical board at the end of next week. Information in the afternoon he confirmed Central Military Hospital.

In other words: a team of doctors from various specialties will be consulted on how to proceed with the care of an important patient. It may also be signed under the report on the president’s health and ability to carry out his mandate, which was ordered by parliament in early November.

This information was confirmed to the editor by one of the members of the newly formed board and doctor Tomáš Zima, who specializes in clinical biochemistry and internal medicine. “Yes, I am a board member. After we meet and consult, we will issue a statement. I think it is true,” Charles University’s acting chancellor told Seznam Zprávám.

VN director Miroslav Zavoral said in a hospital statement on Tuesday that he initiated the formation of a multidisciplinary council last week.

Miroslav Zavoral speaks to well-known figures in medicine from leading medical facilities and institutions across the medical field. In accordance with the law, Council members are provided by VN with appropriate cooperation in the Department of Anesthesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Medicine, where the President Republic is hospitalized,” said hospital press spokesman Jitky Zinke. .

Doctor and candidate for minister of health Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) was originally supposed to be a member of the council, but he decided to step down from the council due to government involvement, so no one could challenge the results of the investigation.

“The professor certainly welcomed the formation of the board, but in the end he will not be part of it due to the possibility of questioning the objectivity of the board,” wrote TOP 09 spokesman Vladan Vaněk to Seznam Zprávám.

Information for Parliament

According to Seznam Zpráv’s information, there should be around nine doctors on the newly formed council. Seznam Zprávy knows the identities of several other experts – in addition to the attending physician at Zeman and the head of the VN, Miroslav Zavoral, among whom are experts specializing in physiotherapy, diagnosis or treatment of diseases of the abdominal region, as well as experts in psychiatry.

Next week, the Council should receive a medical document on Zeman’s condition, which it will then analyze and advise on what outcomes to make based on the documents studied. As the already quoted Chancellor of the University Charles Tomáš Zima stated, the board of doctors then had to issue a statement on the whole situation.

This should happen around the time that the new Chamber of Deputies meets for the first time on November 8. Only then was it possible to start a debate about the possibility of temporarily removing President Miloš Zeman from the exercise of presidential functions. Thus deputies and senators can vote on this procedure based on information from the established council.

Its formation will also create a system if parliament actually transfers Zeman’s powers to the prime minister and chamber president. As soon as the president and his office are convinced that the head of state is fit to carry out his duties again, the council will meet again and evaluate the president’s condition.

One of the first to criticize the silence of the Palace a few weeks ago and call for a medical council to be convened was former Minister of Human Rights Džamila Stehlíková. “The board will have the greatest capacity in their department, I am very happy about that. The president will receive the best treatment and this will be an unquestionable conclusion,” Stehlíková told Seznam Zprávám.

Hospital under pressure

At the same time, the creation of an advisory board of doctors will take some of the pressure off the Central Military Hospital, where the president is hospitalized, for several weeks.

Hospital management has publicly indicated in recent weeks that they are displeased with the behavior of the president’s closest aides—both in the way they informed the president about his condition and how they interfered with the president’s treatment regimen in the intensive care unit.

The police also watched the group develop around the presidential chancellor, Vratislav Mynář.
