The Polish translation of the interview with Khodorkovsky was published by the Onet portal. The businessman who was once one of the richest Russians analyzes the situation in Ukraine and Russia. According to him, currently there are three scenarios for the development of the war.

Khodorkovsky on three war scenarios

– One: The Russian regime collapsed, for example because Putin was dying of a heart attack. Second: the war continues with heavy losses for many years and it is impossible to predict how it will end. Third: The West equips Ukraine with the means necessary to end the war quickly. This must be the kind of favor Putin knows he will lose out on,” Khodorkovsky explained.

According to him, the targeted blow to the Putin regime is to take qualified people away from it. “Western countries, for example, should recruit Russian engineers and make it very easy for them to settle down,” Khodorkovsky explained. In his opinion, this would be a more accurate blow to the Kremlin than sanctions, the 10th package is being prepared by the European Union. According to the businessman, Russia has gold reserves that will last for another three years, therefore it is impossible to destroy the country’s economy in a short time.

What about Russia after Putin? There are two ways

In an interview, Khodorkovsky spoke about what Russia was like after Vladimir Putin left power. He saw two models: Yugoslavia and Switzerland. The first meant the division of Russia into states and, according to Khodorkovsky, would be dangerous for the world order.

“That would be very dangerous and could lead to a nuclear conflict and a new dictatorship. I support a full path of reconstruction and development towards a parliamentary-federalist model, said the former co-owner of Yukos. According to him, changes in Russia took a long time to come – some twenty years after Putin left power. Russia is now where Germany was shortly after the end of World War II.
