Putin justifies why Russians are behaving like barbarians: The civilized world doesn’t want us

“We always wanted to be part of the civilized world. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, for some reason it seemed to us overnight that we would become part of this so-called civilized world. It turned out that they didn’t want us there despite all their efforts,” said Putin.

The head of the Kremlin added that he himself took the initiative in this direction, but to no avail.

On February 24, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of lives on both sides. During missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, Russia also targets civilian infrastructure. More than once they hit hospitals, schools and residential areas.

Despite all this, Putin did not allow himself to say on Wednesday that he regards Ukrainians as a brother and that Russia has done everything to build brotherly relations with Ukraine over the years. “But nothing worked,” repeated the Russian position.

At the same time, in July 2021, even before the war, Putin published an essay on Ukraine, which he denied the right to live independently. In it, he claims that Ukraine can formally exist as an independent state, but only in some kind of union with Russia. That is, it is similar to Belarus under the leadership of the authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
