Sochi (Russia) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Russian resort of Sochi today. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the statesmen will discuss, among other things, the situation in Ukraine and Syria, Russian media reported. The presidents will be meeting for the second time in a relatively short time, they last spoke to each other on July 19 in Tehran.

“First of all, there are (on the agenda) various dimensions of our bilateral relations: namely, trade and economic cooperation,” said a Kremlin spokesman, according to whom Putin and Erdogan, presidents of NATO member states, will also discuss the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine. . Russia invaded the neighboring country militarily in February, sparking Europe’s biggest land conflict since the end of World War II. “There are many other questions on the agenda,” Peskov said.

According to him, one of them will be the first voyage of ships with Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea and the fulfillment of the Istanbul agreement. A few days ago, a ship with a cargo of corn left Ukraine, the trip made possible by the conclusion of an agreement to resume food exports from ports blocked due to the Russian invasion in February. Prior to that, the convention was concluded in Istanbul by Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations.

According to Peskov, the two presidents agreed to meet today in July during the meeting in Iran. There they also met with Iranian representatives, with whom they discussed a possible peaceful solution to the situation in Syria. While Moscow and Tehran support the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Turkey has provided assistance to rebel groups battling Assad’s forces in the northwest of the country. At the same time, according to AFP, Erdogan has been threatening to launch a new offensive in northern Syria against Kurdish fighters for a long time.
