00:01. President Duda: There is currently no indication that Vladimir Putin intends to come to the negotiating table
There is no indication at this time that Vladimir Putin intends to come to the negotiating table, President Andrzej Duda said when asked about the possibility of Russia’s participation in a peace summit on Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Ukraine wants to hold the summit before the US presidential election, scheduled for November this year. According to the agency, this reflects Kiev’s fear of Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency. The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Moscow will not take part in a second peace summit on Ukraine, Russian state-owned news agency Ria Novosti reported on Thursday.
President Duda was asked on Polsat News about the possibility of holding a summit with Russia in the coming months.
I can never rule out that Russia’s decision to take part in such a summit is possible. I wouldn’t rule it out at all. Of course, theoretically it is possible.
– replied the president.
However, it is unlikely that such a decision will be easy to come by as there is currently no indication that Vladimir Putin intends to come to the negotiating table.
– said Andrzej Duda.
The first peace summit took place on June 15-16 in Buergenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of more than 90 countries and international organizations. President Zelensky said the event was a “great success for Ukraine and all its partners.”
The summit’s final communique was signed by most of the entities that participated in the June talks. However, several key countries in the Global South, including India, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, have yet to do so. Russia was not invited to the first summit, and China declined to attend.
It was a very important event, a few days ago in Warsaw I congratulated President Volodymyr Zelensky on this Swiss conference, because it was a very important event. Politically, I think, very important. Almost half of the UN members were represented, so half of the world was represented. A very important exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine, the war and the possibilities to end it.
– Andrzej Duda pointed out. He added that the event “demonstrated the determination to defend international law.”
