– It’s actually a little surreal. “I feel that I am entering a competition where it is difficult to surpass what was last,” Retzius told NRK after Saturday’s achievement.

The 4.70-meter pole vault is her third Norwegian record for this year, and the athlete from Moelv has increased 19 centimeters in one year.

– It’s great to take a claim and jump 4.70 for the first time and be up there with the best, said the 26-year-old in what she herself described as drunkenness.

The jump sent Retzius to joint third in the world and top in Europe. Finally, the requirements for the World Cup were passed. But whether there will be a “cross the pond” trip is highly uncertain.

– Valuable for Norwegian viewers

Step by step. There are three words the pole vaulter has spoken several times. Today, today’s result is the most important. Important talks with coaches and federations now await.

– The little thing is that I have the European Championship as my main goal this season. Traveling across the pond… I’ll have to see what I’m doing, Retzius said.

– I want to consult the union and everything first. “I want to speak to the coach, but I have met the qualification requirements, I have,” he said.

NRK athletics expert Christina Vukicevic Demidov herself was once an athlete and acknowledged herself in the assessment that Retzius now had to make.

– Those of us who traveled down wanted to have Lene at the World Cup. It is invaluable for Norwegian viewers to see Norwegian pole vaulters among the world’s elite in pole vault for women.

But:

– Of course there is a long break in July with a time difference. It has something to say for the season after, which is August. Then asked how you weigh yourself and how you had planned the season in advance, said Vukicevic.

Retzius participated in his first World Cup in 2019 in Doha. There he failed to reach the final. Ordinary TV viewers might think that the World Cup is one of the greatest dreams of athletes. But in a season with the World Cup in July and the European Championship in August, one has to make tough judgments.

Something that may not have been included in Retzius’ calculations when the season was planned, though, is the extreme jump from 4.51 last year to 4.70 this year.

– Obviously something had happened here that he had to decide that they might not have thought of coming. Lene Retzius is now in a different position to consider the possibility of the upcoming World Cup this July.

With third place in this year’s world rankings, there is at least some doubt that he has something to do at the World Cup. He himself especially wanted to enjoy his new record.

– I’m enjoying myself and enjoying the day and will just try to jump higher and higher, says optimistic Retzius.
