Ryerson is one win away from what Haaland never did
On Sunday afternoon, Erling Braut Haaland could celebrate winning the league title in his first season as a Manchester City player. At the same time, Julian Ryerson closed his eyes and clicked on the duel for Haaland’s previous club, Borussia Dortmund.
Among other things, thanks to Ryerson’s efforts, Dortmund won 3-0 away from Augsburg. This means that the Norwegian national team defender now has the all-time opportunity to do what Haaland failed to do in his three seasons at Dortmund, namely win the Bundesliga.
Sunday’s win means Dortmund are two points ahead of the usually excellent Bayern Munich with just one round of league remaining. It means Ryerson and Dortmund will be league champions if they beat Mainz at home at Signal Iduna Park next Saturday.
Sébastien Haller became Dortmund’s biggest hero on Sunday when he scored the first two goals. In overtime, Julian Brandt made it 3-0.
Julian Ryerson has started in 28 of 33 games and has been a major contributor to Dortmund’s success this season.
Borussia Dortmund have won the Bundesliga eight times before, most recently in 2012. Since then, Bayern Munich have won ten in a row, but now that record could be broken. Bayern ended with a difficult away game against Cologne.
