Russia. Children in cardboard tanks and with plastic guns celebrate Victory Day

The kindergarten teacher was followed by six-year-olds dressed as cardboard cruisers and tanks. Some children also have plastic replicas of rifles in their hands. Parents gathered around the procession and cheered enthusiastically to see the children dressed like this.

Celebrations at kindergartens in Astrakhan are not isolated incidents, and similar celebrations take place at other educational institutions in Russia. Such events are a manifestation of the increasing indoctrination and “national education” that the youngest children also experience.

Already in March 2022, a few days after the start of the invasion of Ukraine, teachers received special materials and instructions on how to conduct classes and transfer knowledge about “special military operations” in Ukraine. They also have to explain to the children that sanctions imposed on Russia will only bring them good. Providing other information about the war in Ukraine will result in the immediate dismissal of work and bring accusations.
