Molde escape with a scare – scoring in extra time in a thriller
For long spells, it was Lillestrøm who came closest to a winner at Åråsen with a shot hitting the crossbar and a goal being ruled out. However, Molde took all three points after Kristian Eriksen’s stoppage-time strike.
The match winner cheered uncontrollably as he threw himself onto the billboard in front of the crowd. He admitted it was a bit intense for him.
– I think it’s great to have the blue team behind you. Celebrating the late goal with them means a lot to me, the team and the fans, so it’s nice to celebrate things like that together, Eriksen told NRK.
With that, the blue shirts ended a three-game winless streak.
The Canaries got off to the best possible start with a superb goal. It was Ylldren Ibrahimaj who fired in from a corner from 20 yards.
– That one is very high, says Simen Stamsø Møller.
LSK were clearly the better side, but the Blues were effective and equalised before the break. It was their new Danish signing Frederik Ihler who headed home to make it 1-1 and ensure the two teams were level.
Lillestrøm continued to impress Åråsen and they almost took the lead. Eric Larsson hit the crossbar. The ball landed close to the goal line but was the wrong side of the post for LSK.
Later, the home team should have put the ball into the goal, but the goal was disallowed due to a free kick and a charge towards the goalkeeper.
Instead, it was Molde who should have had the best final sprint. Eriksen decided in extra time for the blue shirt.
This means that Erling Moe’s team are ten points behind the leaders, but only two points behind Brann in third place.
