City without Haaland turned around to win
With Erling Braut Haaland absent due to injury, three other offensive players took responsibility as Manchester City turned around to win 3-1 away to Everton.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed before kick-off that Haaland – who is still struggling with a foot injury – “hopes to be back in January”.
Everton went into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead after Jack Harrison's goal, but just after the break Phil Foden equalized with a cannon shot from distance.
About ten minutes after the 1-1 goal, the turnaround became a reality for City. Everton were awarded a penalty after a handball on Amadou Onana, and Julián Álvarez put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot.
Just before the match ended, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gave Bernardo Silva a Christmas gift. The player from Portugal took advantage of the open opportunity and sent a long ball which made the score 3-1.
The victory brought City up to fourth place in the Premier League. There are five points above league leaders Liverpool, but City have a game in hand.
Everton is ranked 17th with 16 points, only one point ahead of Luton who are in the relegation zone.
Oscar Bobb sat throughout the match on the bench for the visitors, while City goalkeeper John Stones was out due to injury.
