The Polish Embassy in Israel, based on information from the Haaretz portal, informed about the death of Szewach Weiss. Former Knesset chairman and Israeli ambassador to Poland has died aged 87.

On Friday, 3 February 2023, Shevah Weiss, former Israeli ambassador to Poland and chairman of the Israeli Knesset, passed away at the age of 87.

Szewach Weiss is dead

Shevah Weiss is an Israeli political scientist, politician and diplomat, professor of political science. He was a member of the Knesset from 1981 to 1999 and its chairman from 1992 to 1996. In 2001–2003, he was Israel’s ambassador to Poland. Knight of the Order of the White Eagle.

Born in 1935 in Poland’s Eastern Borderlands, Weiss went into hiding during World War II in a Ukrainian and then Polish family. In 1992-96 he headed Israel’s parliamentary work, and in 2001-03 he was Israel’s ambassador to Poland. During her mission in Poland, she took an important part in Polish public life, which was facilitated by her fluent knowledge of the Polish language.

Since 2000, he is Chairman of the Board of the Yad Vashem Memorial Institute. At the same time, he was a visiting lecturer on Israeli history and politics at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Journalism and Political Science. He is the author of dozens of books: for children, on political science, on city government and the Holocaust.

Shevah Weiss’ funeral will take place on Sunday, February 5, 2023 in Jerusalem The Israeli daily Haaretz reported.
