In the South Bohemian Region, 1,177 people have suffered from whooping cough since the beginning of the year. Last week, health experts recorded 118 new cases in the region. This is 24 less than a week earlier. This follows the latest information from South Bohemian cleaning experts. The South Bohemia region is the region most affected by whooping cough compared to the entire Czech Republic.
“In the last four weeks, we have seen a slowdown in growth momentum. The group most exposed is still secondary school students. “As for the district, we recorded the most cases in České Budějovice, namely 497. We recorded 20 cases in children under one year old as the most vulnerable age group, there were no additional new cases in the last week.” said the director of health experts South Bohemia Kvetoslava Kotrbová.
Whooping cough also appeared elsewhere in Europe. In the Czech Republic, the disease used to occur only occasionally in a few cases, but now it is on the rise. People who have received pertussis vaccination for a long time can receive revaccination. Adults pay extra to get the vaccine, but some insurance companies contribute to vaccinations. Since the start of this year, the State Health Institute (SZÚ) has recorded nearly 8,000 cases of whooping cough.
The disease initially manifests as other respiratory infections. The typical symptom is whooping cough, and attacks can last for several days. This infection is especially dangerous for unvaccinated children or the elderly.
