After two draws earlier in the season, things really started to work out at Brann. Bergen’s men are clearly top of the table with ten wins and two draws during the first 12 rounds of the draw.
Today’s 2-1 win means they now have eight straight wins in the series. This is a new club record, according to Brann’s own website. In 1956/47, 1967 and 2018, they also won seven games in a row.
– We created a lot of chances, but they didn’t count. Bryne is disgusting at set pieces. They had a good chance at the end of the game that left us with just one point. “We’re not completely satisfied with the performance, but we’re satisfied with the three points,” goalscorer Kasper Skaanes told Discovery.
During successive wins, Brann has scored 26 goals, which is an average of more than three goals. Against Bryne, they also shot out of the starting block and did what seemed like an endless assault on Jærbu’s defence. After 13 minutes of playing, the first goal came.
Top scorer Brann Mathias Rasmussen received the ball from Kasper Skaanes and put his seventh goal of the season with a controlled finish from the right flank inside the penalty area.
Only Start sensation Jonatan Braut Brunes has scored more goals than any midfielder in the OBOS league.
In a 3-0 win for Start, Stjørdals-Blink had to put an outfielder in goal. See why in the video below.
Brann got some giant chances to put it 2-0 at half-time. It was therefore hard to believe that Rasmussen’s goal remained the only one after the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Bryne had the better of the record, but with a quarter of an hour remaining, Skaanes made it 2-0 with a controlled finish.
A Brann player should score again, but in his own net. Bryne found a corner at the first post, and there Felix Horn Myhre staggered the ball over the keeper and into his own net.
So, there was excitement towards the end, and not minutes later Bryne just made a fine save by Mathias Dyngeland to equalize and it was 2-2.
Instead, Brann can breathe a sigh of relief and cheer for a new club record.
– Bryne is one of the best teams we’ve come across this year. They play very direct, and come out with weight and a will to get something out of the game. They made it difficult for us, says coach Brann Eirik Horneland Bergens Tidende.
– It flows well. Winning on days like these is a good quality, Kasper Skaanes followed up.
Brann tops the table with 32 of 36 possible points. Ranheim are the closest team behind the standings with 24 points. In the next round of the series, Brann will visit Start in Kristiansand.
On Monday, Ranheim took a 2-0 lead away against Kongsvinger, but had to see that win slipped completely at the end:
