The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank will not comment on the letter sent to these institutions by the NBP regarding the announcement of the possible prosecution of President Adam Glapiński before the State Court – the press service of these institutions told PAP Business. The ECB only confirmed receipt of the letter from the NBP.
Marta Kightley, vice president of the National Bank of Poland, announced the sending of the letter on Monday in an interview with Business Insider Polska. According to the NBP, the actions the politicians are talking about are contrary to EU treaties and there is no legal basis for taking the NBP president to the State Court.
— It is difficult to find an argument that would justify discussing a State Court for the NBP presidency. I show that there is no violation of the law and the constitution. And this is the only option that results in accountability to the courts, Knightley said.
He stressed that there was no reason to take the NBP president to Court. — The reasons that appear in the public sphere are arrogant and political. I cannot find any argument that would justify a State Court impeaching the President of the NBP and thereby removing him from his duties. You can't do something like that based on an unrealistic premise. This is bad for the country, the institutional fabric and the economy, said the NBP first vice president.
