Klopp said goodbye triumphantly: – I love you
Liverpool face Wolverhampton at Anfield in manager Jürgen Klopp’s final game.
The home side took control from the start, and when the visitors’ Nelson Semedo saw red after 28 minutes, it didn’t take long for Alexis MacAllister to take the lead. Five minutes before the break, goalkeeper Jarell Quansah made it 2-0. The result was the same, and Klopp was able to hug both players and their support staff.
Liverpool will be number three in the Premier League this year. Seven points behind Arsenal, and nine points behind Manchester City.
After the match, Klopp and all his supporters who had now resigned at Liverpool received applause from the stadium which was still full.
– I love you, Jürgen Klopp told supporters in a speech in the middle of the pitch at Anfield.
Klopp had a lot on his mind as he stood on the small stage with a microphone in hand.
– This doesn’t seem to be the end. It felt like a beginning. Today I saw a football team full of talent, youth, creativity and determination.
Klopp tried to start a song about Arne Slot, Liverpool’s new manager. The crowd responded by first repeating “Arne Slot” before switching to chanting Klopp’s name.
– I hope you welcome the new manager as you welcomed me. You have to go “all in” from day one. You have to keep believing, said Klopp, before finally resigning as Liverpool manager.
– Thank you very much. You are the best team in the world. Thank you very much!
