On Thursday, AfD leader Alice Weidel posted comments on Twitter to a poll she said her party enjoyed 32 percent support in the former East Germany (excluding Berlin). However, Weidel used the term “Mitteldeutschland” (central Germany) instead of Ostdeutschland (east Germany).
Shameful post by a German politician
The case was commented on by Beata Szydło on social media. AfD leader Alice Weidel’s entry into ravaging the Polish-German border showed that east Germany was in fact “middle Germany” and it caused outrage in Poland – and it did. Criticism of Weidel’s words, however, went unheard of from German politicians and the media. But Weidel is not just anyone – he has been a member of the Bundestag for many years and chairman of the AfD caucus in the German parliament. Meanwhile, the German elite, always on the lookout for “violations of the rule of law”, are eloquently silent in the case of Weidel’s remarks “- announced Beata Szydło .
The former prime minister continued: “Against the backdrop of Weidel’s statements, there has been a marked increase in support for the AfD, which is the most popular party in east Germany. It already governs or co-governs many cities, districts and even federal states. Soon, power over part of Germany, and perhaps all of Germany, may end up in the hands of a very radical party whose leaders, as we can see, are able to openly abolish modern forms of borders. a very dangerous scenario for all of Europe,” Beata Szydło wrote on Twitter.
“They are trying to change the EU decision-making process”
He also pointed out that “at the same time, the German authorities, rather than paying attention to their own internal situation, prefer to instruct others and try to change the decision-making process in the European Union outside of the agreement.”
“Germany’s plans for Europe were recently presented publicly to the European Parliament by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who demands the abolition of the veto in the EU. Is this the direction Europe will follow? Towards a federation dominated by Germany?” asked the former Polish head of government rhetorically.

After World War II, the official West German term “Mitteldeutschland” was used to refer to the GDR. It was meant to make it clear that the Restored Territories were not considered part of Poland, but East Germany.
The term began to disappear from official statements and documents in the 1970s, after the signing of the PRL-FRG Agreement by Prime Minister Józef Cyrankiewicz and Chancellor Willy Brandt. However, this phrase is still commonly used in so-called expulsion and renewal.
The entry of AfD leader Alice Weidel damaged the Polish-German border by declaring that east Germany was actually “middle Germany” which caused outrage in Poland – and it was. Criticism of Weidel’s words, however, fell silent from German politicians and the media. But Weidel doesn’t…
