Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi can influence the end of our war with Russia because he is the leader of a very large country in terms of population, influence and economic potential, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview for The Times of India.
Modi can influence the end of the war. This has great value in any conflict. India, (with) one and a half billion people, can have a real impact on this
– said Zelensky.
According to the president, India’s possible participation in weakening the Russian economy, including the energy and arms sectors, could reduce Russia’s combat capacity and shorten the duration of the war with Ukraine.
We spoke to Prime Minister Modi. We have a (suitable) platform, namely the Peace Summit. I believe we can hold a second Peace Summit in any capital. This conference can definitely be held in India and the Prime Minister can do it, he can organize the summit, but we have to prepare for it.
– said the president.
Russia itself has killed a lot (of its citizens). Many of the Russian soldiers who were mobilized were killed by the Russian soldiers themselves because they were afraid to advance or die from bullets or wounds. They fled and were killed there by their own soldiers… They (Russia – PAP) were not counted (these soldiers). You know they already have about 650,000. victims, killed and injured
— Zelensky noted in an interview with an Indian daily.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) alone cannot fully remedy this situation. This cannot fully influence Putin and his supporters. But together – leaders, the ICC, international law, the UN, the G20 – they can all bring this war to an end. However, we felt the (positive) impact of the ICC’s actions. Putin does not travel to most countries in the world
— said the leader of the Ukrainian state.
Leaders of the G20 countries
Zelensky also believes that the leaders of the G20 countries, the world’s largest economies, can “force Putin to end the war.”
Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, India maintained political and economic ties with Moscow, which provided India with cheap oil and weapons. The meeting between India’s head of government and Zelensky took place in August just weeks after Modi’s talks with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
Modi met with the Russian dictator in the first half of July – on the day a Russian missile hit the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kiev. More than 30 people died in the Ukrainian capital, including children.
