The Berlin Administrative Court has authorized the flying of the Russian flag and coat of arms during World War II celebrations. This specifically concerns an event scheduled for May 9 at 17 Czerwca Street, a spokesperson for the rbb police station said on Sunday. The police appealed this decision.
Initially, police issued a ban on placing Russian and Ukrainian flags and symbols around Soviet monuments in Treptow, Tiergarten and Schoenholzer Heide on 8 and 9 May. These two days celebrate the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

On Friday, an administrative court lifted the ban on the use of the Ukrainian symbol. Berlin police are not appealing, said police spokesperson rbb.
When Russia attacked Ukraine and the two countries are currently at war, the conflict over the anniversary was feared. The police justified his general order by saying they wanted to ensure “the proper commemoration of fallen former Soviet soldiers”.
