The aim of the event is to connect the world of physically disabled people with the world of healthy people in the 250 meter track. “Anyone can register for the relay race at the Rudolfova Alej Výstaviště Flora site, which this year has the subtitle United Worlds, several hundred people of all generations participate in it every year,” Milan Papežík of the Olomouc Wheelchair Trend Association told ČTK .
The 12 hour relay will start at 10.00 WIB. Riders can use the relay track until 22.00. The essence of the event is to maintain an unbroken relay chain so that at least one train is moving on the track all the time. “We want to bring the world of wheelchair users closer to all healthy people, so that they can at least for a moment empathize and understand how difficult it is to push these wheelchairs. Any unevenness of the terrain can be recognized and you will then realize that it is not easy for wheelchair users,” said event coordinator Milan Papežík.
Also according to association director Tomáš Zrnka, the aim of the event is to show how complex the daily movements of a person using a wheelchair are. “Things are changing for the better in Olomouc and in the Czech Republic as a whole, but we at Wheelchair Trend, our clients, people with physical disabilities, and people with visual disabilities, for example, still face barriers in cities. It’s a shame that even today we must warn architects, planners, builders and authorities that some even new buildings are implemented inappropriately, and barriers that we cannot see as ‘pedestrians’ are often very difficult for persons with disabilities to overcome.” added Zrnka.
Every year, people across generations and school classes, employees, groups of friends or company teams participate in the relay, and a number of famous personalities also sit in wheelchairs. Organizers promise the largest mentoring program for families with children ever during the relay. It will include concerts and performances, the audience can expect the young rock band DneskaNe, busking duo Kláva, oriental dance performed by the group Tim Zalika, singer and SuperStar finalist Martin Šafařík, the cultural program will end with a concert by the band Legend has returned.
The wheelchair event will return ahead of the Olomouc Half Marathon.
