The World Bank will give Ukraine an additional $200 million to rebuild the energy sector, says Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
A meeting between Prime Minister Szmyhala and World Bank Director of Operations Anna Bjerde was held in Washington, where the parties signed a mutual agreement. According to him, the World Bank has announced to transfer an additional 200 million dollars for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector which was badly damaged during the war.
“Ukrainian reconstruction will start this year, and energy is one of our priorities. The funds obtained from the World Bank will be directed towards the reconstruction of electricity and heating networks in Kiev, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy and cities of the Chernihiv region,” Shmyhal said via social media.
The Prime Minister added that issues related to the new format of providing financial assistance to Ukraine were also discussed at the meeting. Platforms that coordinate donations from donors are commonly called“Rammstein Finance”. The project will operate at three levels: continued short- and medium-term support for Ukraine, international coordination and support for reforms, and private sector development.
“Together with the World Bank, we are also preparing to implement a project to ensure foreign investment from war risks. This is the main tool to attract these investments now, without waiting for the end of the war,” Szmyhal added.
