Francisco Cerúndolo and Casper Ruud advanced to the men’s semifinals in the evening. The Norwegian surprisingly beat Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, Argentina’s Cerúndolo advanced thanks to a scratch by Jannik Sinner.

Thirty-two-year-old Kvitová was on the crossbar from the start and did not set a single break point. He ultimately lost to wiateková in 77 minutes and did not reach his first semi-final appearance in Miami.

wiateková won his fifteenth consecutive game on the WTA circuit. “I’m excited right now and I hope it lasts for a while,” said the 20-year-old Pole, who will become world number one on Monday after Ashleigh Barty’s unexpected retirement.

“It’s not easy to have such a long winning streak. I am very happy that I am healthy and able to play with a player like Petra. She is a legend,” wiateková said in the two-time Wimbledon winner’s speech.

Last year’s winner Roland Garros wiateková will play host Jessica Pegulaová for a place in the final. The other semifinal pair consisted of Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and Naomi Osaka of Japan.

In the men’s competition, Casper Ruud claimed the biggest win of his career so far. The Norwegian beat world number four Alexander Zverev of Germany 6:3, 1:6, 6:3 in the quarter-finals and will be playing in the semifinals for the fourth time at any of the Masters series tournaments.

Ruud lost in all three semifinals, but was always played on clay. “Now it’s the first time on a hard surface, so it will be a little different. I hope I have learned from previous defeats and it will come true: All the best,” said Ruud.

His opponent is Francisco Cerúndolo of Argentina, who is ranked 103 in the world and thus the lowest-ranked semifinalist in the tournament’s history in Miami.
