Starting point for a conversation with the professor Ku¼niar the article was published a few days ago on OKO.press, entitled: “Foreign policy is in ruins. This is a betrayal of Polish interests.” As stated by the presenter, Miko³aj Lizut, the main conclusion of this text is that our country does not pursue a foreign policy at all.
– Correct. Poland stopped pursuing foreign policy in late autumn 2015, Roman Ku¼niar admitted on TOK FM. He explained that foreign policy must include, among other things: representing the country’s interests abroad and maintaining the country’s influence in international circles. – The PiS government has reduced what was previously a foreign policy to cover the anti-democratic changes that began when they came to power. And this is what their “foreign policy” is actually dealing with now – said the TOK FM guest.
He added, Law and Justice does not represent the interests of all society, but I am trying my best to whiten my image before the world, especially Europe. – Yes, there is some activity in foreign relations, but this is ordinary, routine maintenance of relations, not foreign policy – he stressed.
“Polish grajdo³ek”
– Or maybe foreign policy is of no use to Law and Justice? – wonders Mikołaj Lizut. According to Prof. Ku¼niara that’s an accurate assessment. As he said, “they are not interested in the world at all, they don’t understand the world and they don’t need it for anything.” – Their world is a Polish playground, which they want to organize in their own way. The outside world bothers them – say TOK FM guests.
According to the expert, relations between Poland and the European Union are very bad. He estimates that if it were not for our country receiving certain financial grants from the Community, PiS would happily withdraw from it. – Because the European Union prevents them from turning Poland into a nationalist-totalitarian open-air museum – he said.
He was highly critical of Janusz Wojciechowski’s nomination as commissioner. Let us remind you that the PiS candidate is trying for the agriculture portfolio – however, the European Parliament has not given him the “green light”. During the hearing in the European Parliament, Wojciechowski performed poorly and had to answer additional questions in writing. – He performed very poorly, and we still claim that he deserves the commissioner’s portfolio – said Prof. Ku¼niar.
He also criticized the competence of the new members of the European Parliament for Law and Justice. He argued that “these are people who don’t understand the European Union” and – as he said – they don’t care about its strong position vis-à-vis the outside world. – Poland is more likely to pay attention to what Putin is trying to do Trumpnamely to dissolve the Union – argued the TOK FM guest.
Betrayal in foreign policy
Miko³aj Lizut points out that in the essay mentioned at the beginning, Professor Ku¼niar mentions betrayal quite often. The journalist emphasized that in Polish foreign policy, this is a very serious accusation.
– If we look in the dictionary, we see that ideals, traditions and principles can also be betrayed. So everything that happens in foreign policy fits the dictionary definition of treason. There is no abuse here – argues former presidential adviser Bronis³aw Komorowski.
According to the professor, the actions of the Law and Justice government “we are facing a classic betrayal of everything that our policy has defended so far and that has ensured Poland’s success – both internally and externally.” According to this expert, after 1989 Poland was a very active participant in social and economic changes: Poland opened itself to the West, among other things, taking part in social and economic changes. for the European Community, and on the international stage “the country is considered a success”. Now – as our guest says – it’s the opposite.
Roman Ku¼niar is also quite skeptical in the context of the recently announced abolition of visas to the United States. According to him, the announcement was “only related to the elections” to the Sejm and Senatewhich will take place in Poland next Sunday. – A friend of the ruling camp in the United States, namely a president facing impeachment and a morally fallen person – just like the ruling camp in Poland – just wanted to help them, saying that visas would be available soon “±,” said the professor.
