JIt’s ten o’clock and it’s just sleepy dawn. The light wouldn’t last long, only until about three o’clock in the afternoon. Most of the day it is dark here. Not completely, thankfully – the white blanket everywhere ensures a constant bluish gloom. When the sun appears from behind the clouds, it’s a holiday. The landscape suddenly lit up as if in a spotlight. Everything glistened brilliantly with frost, it was minus ten in the morning at dawn. There is a strange silence from the magical winter landscape. Welcome to central Sweden, the Jämtland region, where thousands of lakes and ponds overflow.
Lake Storsjön, one of the largest in Sweden, is dotted with many islands. The largest is Frösöm. There’s plenty of fishing here in the summer, and people are even trying to discover Sweden’s version of the lake. However, from October to May, it is quiet. In winter, a 40-centimeter layer of ice forms on the surface. It’s beautiful here, such an idealistic place pepper image. Only here, instead of sledding, people “rolled” in cars on the hill in front of the huts.
