Former Northug coach joins the cross country team
Stig Rune Kveen (41) joins the coaching team with head coach Sjur Ole Svarstad. He had previously coached Petter Northug.
“I’m really looking forward to getting started and getting to know the athletes, Sjur Ole and others in the support kit,” Kveen told NRK.
He said that it was a long and thorough process he had gone through, but was proud and happy that the choice fell on him. The first training session is at Sognefjellet next weekend, and there Kveen will get an overview of the training group, before she takes on the task of taking Norwegian women’s cross-country skiing to the highest level, together with Svarstad.
– I know Sjur Ole a little more than before. And it’s an extra motivating factor to come here, that I know that Sjur Ole is a very positive and committed person. “In that way, we are very similar, so I think we will work well with each other and create a good environment in the group,” he said.
Torgeir Bjørn considered it important to include Trndelag players in the coaching team of an elite team. Kveen lives in Meråker.
– He is one of the biggest candidates for the job. Especially the fact that we put Trnder into the team, and have good chemistry with Svarstad, is very important here. “We will have the World Cup in Trondheim in just under three years, and most of the trip will take place in the Trondheim area,” Bjørn told NRK.
