On Wednesday evening, Chess.com presented the results of its investigation into Hans Niemann. IN report it turns out that Niemann was “probably duped” on a large scale.
Analysis from the website claims that Niemann may have cheated in more than 100 internet games and that was until the end of 2020. These games include games where there is prize money.
The report also revealed that Niemann allegedly cheated in the Pro Chess League in 2020 for Norwegian Gnomes.
– I must admit that I did not suspect. This is partly because I am busy playing my own game. The result was not sensational by any means and I interpret it to mean that he has cheated in twelve of 28 games, Jon Ludvig Hammer told Dagbladet.
Johan Salomon was Niemann’s teammate during the tournament and made the following comments to Dagbladet:
– Niemann’s cheating was not something I knew or suspected at the time.
Surprise report: – Doesn’t look good
– How did he become part of the team?
– We don’t operate on any budget and don’t buy players, which means we can’t sign players off the top shelf. Therefore, we try to find some outsiders who can perform well and maybe even better than their ratings suggest. I didn’t know much about Niemann at the time, but he played net chess at a higher level than the ratings suggest. “That’s advantageous considering how the league was founded,” Hammer replied.
Hammer added that he believed the latest reports.
– I’m very confident in Chess.com’s anti-cheating work, so if they say Niemann cheated in tournaments, I’m sure of it. Detecting cheating in chess is no easy task, and I think Chess.com is the best in a tough field.
Niemann has yet to respond to the new allegations against him, but is listed as a player during the US Championships, which kick off on Wednesday.
At the opening ceremony, which started around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, you could see Niemann in the audience.
Hans Niemann has not responded to Dagbladet’s repeated questions since the chess dispute began.
