Swedish knockout in prologue – Skistad is far behind
Perhaps it was delays due to heavy snow and flight cancellations that affected the Norwegian women in today's sprint prologue.
Because they didn't have the opportunity to follow the sprinter from Sweden.
Jonna Sundling was fastest in the prologue, with Linn Svahn and Frida Karlsson a few seconds behind.
Ane Appelkvist Stenseth was the closest from Norway in eighth, 6.53 seconds behind.
Tiril Udnes Weng finally returned to the World Cup circus after much illness, and ranked 15th in the prologue.
– I am very satisfied because I managed to start and get a very good prologue. “Just saw I was nine seconds behind, so there was a small gap to close,” he told NRK.
But Norway's greatest sprint hope, Kristine Stavå's Skistad was surprisingly well behind the leaders in 16th place.
– I think the distance here is very far. There are nine seconds left until Jonna Sundling. I'm afraid Kristine will have to do a good job in the final. But if there is anyone who is good at driving tactically, using her speed, able to control the race, it is Kristine, said NRK cross-country expert Fredrik Aukland.
Mathilde Myhrvold also qualified for the quarterfinals, while Kristin Austgulen Fosnæs and Maria Hartz Melling were eliminated in the prologue.
