“Iga wiątek and friends” will play for Ukraine

Iga wiątek has supported the Ukrainian battle since the beginning of the Russian aggression. On Wednesday, the two-time Grand Slam French Open champion announced a new initiative called “Iga wiątek and friends”.

– For months I have been working with my team on relief initiatives for Ukraine to really support those who are suffering because of the war. Together with Agnieszka Radwańska, Elina Svitolina, Serhiy Stachowski and Martyn Pawelski, we will meet in Krakow on July 23 during a special event. We will play a mixed match, and Agnieszka and we will also play a single set. Both matches will be officiated by Elina Svitolina, and the special guest representing Ukraine will also be ex-footballer Andriy Shevchenko – writes the leader of the WTA rankings.

Revenue from tickets will support Ukrainian children

As informed by Iga wiątek, the total income earned, incl. from ticket sales, will be donated to support children and youth affected by the war in Ukraine.

The best tennis players in the world and their teams collaborate with organizations like United 24, Elina Svitoliny Foundation and UNICEF Polska.

– I hope we will meet each other in Krakow to show solidarity in Ukraine and together through sports, to really help children and youth affected by the war on our eastern border. All proceeds from ticket sales that we have just started will be donated to three organizations, including the official Ukrainian relief fund – United 24, for medical assistance to children in hospitals in Ukraine – said Iga wiątek.

Ticket sales for this unique event begin on Thursday. More than 10,000 tickets will be available. A second round of sales of about 5,000 tickets is scheduled for mid-July.

The WTA world ranking leader wrote on social media that he was impressed by fans who immediately bought tickets to the “Iga wiątek and friends” event.

– I just found out that the first batch of tickets for the Ukraine match has practically sold out, there are quite a few tickets left. You guys are amazing because all the income will support an important cause. Those who missed out – can still buy tickets when the second batch of tickets goes on sale on July 11, – said Twitter.
