Woods outside the top 50 in the world – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

The alpine committee of the International Ski and Snowboarding Federation (FIS) confirmed on Friday that Marcel Hirscher’s wish for a wildcard had been granted. The 35-year-old will compete for his mother’s homeland, the Netherlands, this winter.

This was stated by FIS in a summary of the alpine committee meeting in Zurich.

On 26 July, FIS announced that runners who had won a World Cup overall, discipline cup, Olympic gold medal or World Cup and who had taken a break of two to ten years would be given a wildcard to start outside the top 30. . This provides much better conditions for fighting at the top of the world.

It has now been officially confirmed that Hirscher can take advantage of this advantage.

Earlier this year, several other profiles reacted to the FIS decision.

– If FIS says this was discussed with the athlete, that is not true. Nobody in the Whatsapp group, which includes all the World Cup technical specialists, knew about it, Greek slalom star AJ Ginnis told Kronen Zeitung.

Hirscher was considered one of the best mountain climbers in history, but had given up after the 2019 season. Five years later, the man with two Olympic gold medals, seven World Cup gold medals and 67 World Cup wins is finally back. This time for the mother’s country of origin, the Netherlands.

Lucas Braathen will also return as an alpine skier next winter. He will compete for Brazil in the future. (NTB)
