Earth is the only place given to us to live, so we, the inhabitants, must ensure that it is also a home for future generations.
World Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22, precedes Earth Week, which takes place from April 14.
Why do we celebrate Earth Day?
Earth Day celebrations were started in 1970 by American environmentalists. Concerned about the ever-increasing degradation of the natural environment, they are beginning to demand greater attention to the condition of the planet and its natural wealth.
For more than half a century, April celebrations have been an opportunity to draw attention to issues related to environmental degradation, and in recent years climate change too. Currently, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries.
Earth Day and environmental protection
Earth Day celebrations serve to build social awareness in the field of environmental protection, as well as carry out certain actions.
This is reflected in various areas of life, including politics, education, science, culture and even music (an example is the song “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson).
Among the actions accompanying the celebration are the “Earth Hour” (on the last Saturday of March, the lights in homes and offices are symbolically turned off) and the annual cleansing of the world.
Workshops, meetings, conferences, lectures and competitions organized in the framework of Earth Day are only part of the efforts being made to protect the environment.
Earth Day – act and you!
Earth Day is also an opportunity to show individual attitudes and ideas in support of nature.
See what you can do, not just on April 22nd, but every day:

Earth Day, initiated by the American environmental movement, was founded in 1970. Over the years, this pro-ecological holiday began to be celebrated worldwide – in Poland since 1990. In addition, the United Nations (UN) designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day (2009 with resolution A/RES/63/278 on the initiative of Bolivia).
