Prague, March 1, 2023 (PROTEXT) – Of course, we would only have a third of today’s dentistry problems, i.e. costs, if people brushed their teeth regularly and properly. If…
The Czech Dental Chamber is traditionally – every year in March – involved in the large international project World Oral Health Day, which has been organized since 2008 by the World Dental Federation (FDI) together with more than 150 national dental associations and in collaboration with global partners. This preventive awareness event, which is celebrated annually on March 20, is a huge success worldwide, with more and more countries joining the celebrations each year. This year’s project is framed by the motto “Let’s be proud of our mouths!”
In the Czech Republic, the World Oral Health Day (SDUZ) project is carried out by the Czech Chamber of Stomatology (ČSK), which co-funds it with partners and regularly receives patronage from the Ministry of Health for the activities it organizes. In 2018, CSK even hosted the world’s biggest event as part of this awareness project and won an award from FDI for it.
We spread awareness in the field of oral health at events organized for the general public and online at websites www.republicabezkazu.cz/sduz. In addition, during March, dental students, dental hygienists and dental hygienists will present their theoretical and practical experiences in special kindergartens and primary schools in a number of cities in the Czech Republic. Trained teams of students will show children with physical and mental disabilities how to brush their teeth properly and take care of their oral cavity.
By focusing the project on disabled children we want – also through the media – to draw public attention to the fact that this population group needs help or support in the field of prevention, and not only in the field of oral health. On the other hand, as part of this project, we want to prepare future dentists and dental hygienists to work with patients with disabilities, that’s why we are offering online training with advice and tips for dealing with disabilities to students who will educate at school special. In March, we will visit a total of 50 special kindergartens and primary schools throughout the Czech Republic.
Children from ordinary kindergartens and primary schools invited this year a number of public events in regional cities of the Czech Republic. In Prague, SDUZ’s biggest event of the year takes place on the first day of spring, which this year has a magical date: 20/03/2023. The event will take place from 08.30 to 17.00 in front of the west entrance to Černý Most Center, in collaboration with this shopping center and the Prague City Council 14. It will be visited in an organized way by 760 school children from this district, and at the same time the general public is invited there. Educational activities, competitions, games as well as small gifts that are useful await children and adults in large tents in the area in front of the entrance.
During March, other events take place at Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, Ostrava or Olomouc. Those interested can read more about them under our Events tab on the project website (www.republicabezkazu.cz/sduz).
We will provide more detailed information about ongoing projects to the media and the professional public at Press conferencewhich takes place on Thursday March 16, 2023 at 14.00 at the Le Palais Art Hotel Prague Conference Hall (U Zvonařka 1, Prague 2). Media representatives are cordially invited to this conference. You can apply for accreditation at the press department of the Czech Dental Chamber (dufkova@dent.cz).
